Reliance Jio, Vodafone and Airtel had recently announced tariff hikes on their prepaid and postpaid plans impacting millions of users across India. As per a report, this decision was influenced by several factors such as rising operational prices, need for technological advancements, employee costs, spectrum costs, rollout of 5G technology, R&D, etc. Though this plan by the telecom network providers is aimed at assuring better network quality, it may also present new challenges to the users.
It is important to note that Reliance Jio hiked all the prices of its prepaid plans by 12-27 percent but did not decide to replace plan benefits such as free data, call minutes. Similarly, access to Jio 5G unlimited services are also limited. Correspondingly, Airtel and Vodafone have also hiked their prepaid plan prices but kept the plan benefits the same.

Ultimately, Tariff hikes have made more difficult and crucial for users to find money-saving possibilities for high-speed data and unlimited calling. Jio’s monthly prepaid plan costs Rs 249 that provides 1GB of data per day for 28 days, whereas, Airtel offers 2GB of monthly data at Rs 199.
Vodafone charges Rs 299 for providing 1GB of data for 28 days, including 100 SMS per day and unlimited voice calling. Moreover, BSNL is offering its most popular plan of 2GB data per day for 70-days at Rs 197, including benefits such as unlimited voice calls, 100 SMS per day for 15 days and more.

Here’s how to port your Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone SIM to BSNL
- To begin, you need to send an SMS from your current Jio, Vodafone, or Airtel number to 1900 with the text ‘PORT <your 10-digit mobile number >’.
- E.g. if your number is 9835282910, you will send:- ‘PORT 9835282910’.
- Then you will receive an SMS with UPC (Unique Porting Code), along with its expiry date. Generally, UPC’s are valid for 15 days.
- Secondly, visit your nearest BSNL center and fill out the Customer Application form (CAF).
- Provide the UPC and your mobile number to the BSNL representative, along with the form and necessary documents such as valid photo ID and address proof.
- Lastly, choose a BSNL prepaid or postpaid plan that suits your needs.
- BSNL agents will verify your submitted documents and once the verification is completed, you will receive a confirmation SMS about your porting request.
To conclude, the porting process usually takes 7 working days. After receiving confirmation from BSNL, insert your new BSNL SIM card into your smartphone and follow the instructions provided by BSNL to activate your SIM.
